Good morning!
Text: Joshua 19-21; Psalm 58
Sometimes we come across lengthy passages of Scripture that speak of names and places that do not have much meaning for us. In these chapters of Joshua we read about plots of land and cities being allocated to tribes and families of Israelites. The names are foreign. But they are real – both the people and the places are from the real life of God’s chosen people. Whenever we read this sort of detail, it is good to ask what it is saying about the Lord our God and about how His character is being revealed.
The last verse of Joshua 21 nails it;
“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”
The Lord had promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob a land. He had promised them victory. And, He has now delivered. It is good – very. very good – to know that our God keeps His promises. He is faithful, and His faithfulness is directed at specific people, by name and in detail. And, just as these ancient people were His beloved – each by name – so are we. Praise the Lord!
