The firewood ministry is in its fourth year and has served perhaps twenty clients in Eastford and at least seven surrounding towns. It was conceived to be a source of aid for those facing an emergency lack of wood heating fuel, prioritizing senior citizens, widows, and single parents. It functions through some folks volunteering their time and chain saws, wood splitters and trucks and others helping to identify need.
Fortunately, we have a good supply of wood in several locations, but it needs to be cut and split and then loaded and delivered. We have a good supply of logs (in Ashford) and propose Saturday mornings from 9-12 as an open work time to process them.
