Text: Joshua 10-12; Psalm 55
In Joshua 10 we find the account of a big battle with the Amorites. The Lord intervenes on behalf of Israel twice. First, He rains hailstones down on them. Then, He causes this:
And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. (Joshua 10:13)
Whenever we encounter a miracle in the Bible, we usually also encounter attempts to explain the miraculous part away. Did the the earth’s rotation really stop? I believe it did because the Word of God says so. I also believe that the God who created the heavens and the earth is perfectly able to do whatever He needs in order to advance His plan for His people – even if it means suspending the laws of nature. And I believe this is true for us today. Do we believe these things? Do we believe in miracles? Of course we do. We just celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ and proclaimed our belief in the greatest miracle. Hallelujah!
