Good morning!
Text:  Judges 1-3; Psalm 69:1-18
The time of the judges in Israel provides a study in human sin in the lives of people who ought to know better.  The pattern is simple.  God’s people fall away from the Lord and there are negative consequences for them.  The Lord hears their groaning and raises up leaders (“judges”) who save them from their enemies.
In Judges 2 we read about the repentance of the people when an angel from the Lord visits them and calls them to account.  He tells them they have disobeyed God and there will be consequences.
As soon as the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the people of Israel, the people lifted up their voices and wept.(Judges 2:4)
They wept.  How do we respond when we are made aware of our sin?  With a shrug? With a grimace as we decide to move on?  Or with tears?  Our sin is serious. The Lord cares about our sin, and so should we. Weeping is appropriate.
