Good morning!

Text:  Matthew 20-22; Psalm 66
In Matthew 20, we see the James and John and their mother approach Jesus and petition Him to grant them leading roles in the Kingdom.  They are examples of a view that comes naturally to us all – the idea that greatness is found in those who are in charge.  The king, the admiral, the president, the chairman – these are the roles of the great.  Jesus delivers some powerful words about this notion.  In God’s Kingdom, greatness comes by service:

“…whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Do you want to be a great person?  Live your life in the service of others. Serve your spouse, or your sibling, or your parents or your children.  Serve your boss or your employee.  Serve your neighbor.  Serve complete strangers.     In so doing, you will serve the One who is the greatest – our Lord Jesus – who served you by dying on the cross for you.
Do you want to have a great day today?  Serve others.
in Him, Mike
