Good morning!

Text:  Deuteronomy 1-4; Psalm 40

In Deuteronomy 4, we read how the Lord has done incredible things for the Israelites.  What is more, the Israelites hearing this have actually seen His powerful hand at work.  Signs and wonders, pillars of cloud and fire, plagues upon the Egyptians, and the sound of God’s thunderous voice – all these things they have witnessed.  The climax of the description is this:

know therefore today, and lay it to your heart, that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other. (Deut 4:39)

These words are good for us to hear in our time, too.  Today’s news is frightening, the world seems chaotic and dangerous, and the future for our children is uncertain.  It is good to be reminded that our Lord  (the Hebrew is the personal name for God, the great “I AM”) is fully and convincingly in charge.  Nothing is out of control, and nothing is beyond His sight and the reach of His mighty arm.  And… he is our Lord, whom we can know and who loves us so.  The Lord, He is God, and there is no other!

in Him,  Mike
