Good morning!

Today is a reflection day.
A couple verses in Proverbs that always catch my eye are these:

A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.  (Proverbs 6:10-11)

Most days I grab a “combat nap” after lunch.  It revives me for the balance of my day, which usually starts around 5:00 am and and often includes evening meetings.  When I read these words I wince… powerful words of warning to the lazy.  At the same time, these are also words that remind us that serious work – work for the Kingdom – may stretch us.  We may have to get uncomfortable and even suffer.  We may have to labor under great burden well past the point of fatigue.  Now Proverbs are not commandments, they are principles for life. After meditating on this word, I offer this:  If rest puts the work at risk, then put the work before the rest.
