Text: Acts 26-28; Proverbs 13:13-25
What an incredible book this Bible is! I have read it through annually every year since 1995 – making this my 30th year. And every day it speaks anew. I underline as I read, and afterward I double back and ask – why did that particular passage get the treatment by my pencil? What is God saying? Today, Proverbs 13:20 spoke the loudest.
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
It makes sense, doesn’t it? If we hang around with people of wisdom – those who know God’s Word and have applied it in their lives – made good choices and bad and learned – their wisdom ought to rub off. To get wise, “walk” (live your life) with the wise. The contrasting statement has a bit of a nuance. It does not say that hanging around with fools will make one foolish. It says that if we choose the company of fools, we “will suffer harm.” The impression I am getting is that, to be wise, I need to commit to a lifetime among wise people. But, it only takes one outing as the companion of fools to experience harm. Think about it.
