Good morning!
Text: Ezekiel 20-23; Psalm 123-124
Psalm 123 opens with these words:
To you I lift up my eyes,
O you who are enthroned in the heavens!
Behold, as the eyes of servants
look to the hand of their master,
as the eyes of a maidservant
to the hand of her mistress,
so our eyes look to the Lord our God,
till he has mercy upon us. (Psalm 123:1-2)
What a fitting opening to our everyday prayers. When we pray we seek the one who is on high, our Lord and provider. We lift our eyes “up” because He is above, we are small and lesser, He is greater. He is enthroned as King and Ruler, and He is in the heavens, the place of expanse and majesty, and also the place that is so very different from our earthly reality. He is the Lord our God – He is ours as we are His. And from Him we receive mercy… and everything else. May the humble, earnest and dependent heart of these words be our hearts as we pray.
in Him, Mike
