Good morning!

Text:  Genesis 21-23; Psalm 8
The story of Abraham taking Isaac up the mountain  to be sacrificed (Genesis 22) is pretty compelling.  Praise the Lord that He stayed Abraham’s hand.  After God did this, He then provided a ram for the sacrifice – a substitute for Abraham’s only son.  Consistent with the custom we see elsewhere in Genesis, Abraham then named the place:

So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”  (Genesis 22:14)

Such naming was done in order to preserve memory.  It is good for us to remember that our great God is indeed Yahweh yireh – “The Lord who provides.”  He provides for all of our needs. Mostly, He provided the only sacrifice suitable to take away our sins – His One and Only Son.
What is it you need this day?  Food, shelter, comfort, joy, love, rescue?   Whenever we are in need, we can know our God will provide.  Amen.
in Him, Mike
