Text: Exodus 12-14; Psalm 23
There’s some pretty amazing material in today’s reading! As I read, I am always asking the Lord to speak through His Word. Part of hearing Him, for me, is underlining any text that connects. Exodus 13:1-2 is underlined in my Bible:
The Lord said to Moses, “Consecrate to me all the firstborn. Whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”
The tenth plague, death of the firstborn, has just been visited upon Egypt. God’s people, Israel, have been spared through the sacrifice of the lamb and God’s beautiful grace. Now, He claims all those whom He has saved as His own. This is a very simple principle, and it applies to us all as Christians. If He saved me, He owns me. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 brings these words to us as believers:
You are not your own, for you were bought with a price.
We do not like the idea of being owned very much, do we? But we are – and our owner is marvelous, powerful, always good, and loves us intensely. So, that understood, why do we so often live like we think we are in charge?
