Text: Malachi 3-4; Isaiah 55
Isaiah 55 is a delight. It begins with a beautiful invitation to salvation, gives us a reminder of how great God is, and finishes with a portrait of a glorious hereafter. In the midst of it are the words of Isaiah 55:11 which remind us of the amazing role of God’s Word for us:
so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;it shall not return to me empty,but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.
The words of Scripture you and I read each day are accomplishing God’s purpose. The Word we encounter, the Lord Himself says, “shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” Here’s a question we might ask every time we spend time in the Word, “What is God’s purpose in my reading (or hearing, or meditating upon) these words, right now?” This reality – that God has a purpose for His Word in my life – ought to shape my every encounter with The Book. It should inform how I pray before I read, how I interpret what I read, and how I apply the Word to the circumstance of my life right here and now. He is working… so I need to ask, “What is He doing?” Amazing!
