Text: 2 Chronicles 34-36; Psalm 110
Today we finish our time in 2 Chronicles as the Babylonians execute God’s judgment on the sinful nation of Judah, destroying the temple and taking the Jews captive. Throughout the decline of the nation, the prophets have brought warnings.
The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy. (2 Chronicles 36:15-16)
The world around us can make us feel like warning people about the coming wrath of God is somehow unkind and judgmental. But notice the words in these verses. God sent His messengers because of His compassion. If we encountered someone whistling cheerily as they walked toward a precipice and a fall to their great harm, would it be unkind to interrupt their happy mood? God loves us enough to warn. How about us? Do we love the world around us enough to warn them?
