Good morning!
Text: James 3-5; Psalm 51
There is certainly plenty of rich content in today’s readings. Where to begin? James 5:7 spoke to me this morning:
Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains.
I like to get things done, and I like to get results, so I have a tendency toward impatience. Impatience can damage so many things – loving interactions with others, clear thinking, care in acting and inner peace.
The words of this verse remind me that our work for the Lord here is like farming. No matter how much I might want to pick blueberries today, it is not yet time. Our great God has ordained the season and I cannot make it come any faster. So it is with God’s people, the growth of our church and the salvation of our loved ones. We must do what we are appointed to this day and leave the rest up to the Lord.
in Him, Mike
