Good morning!
Text: Judges 4-6; Psalm 69:19-36
The story of Gideon is a personal favorite. The Midianites have been oppressing Israel for years, and they seem helpless to fight and gain their liberty. The Lord sends His angel to Gideon and tells him that he, Gideon, is a “mighty man of valor.” Gideon is a humble man, the man of God’s choosing. We read:
And the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.” And the Lord said to him, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.” (Judges 6:14-16)
There are only two things needful for victory in the Lord – that He has sent us, and that He is with us. Those are both true for Gideon (we’ll see the victory in the readings to come). The same is true for us – He has sent us and He is with us. As with Gideon, victory is certainly ours. The only things we don’t know are the details of how and when. But, victory is certain!
