Good morning!
Text:  Matthew 26-28; Psalm 68
Maybe you have heard this one – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.= B.I.B.L.E.  Matthew’s Gospel closes with Jesus’ final words to His disciples before He ascended into heaven.  These words of final instruction give us our essential assignment as His Body, the Church:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…”    (Matthew 28:19-20)

The action verb, the basic commandment, is to “make disciples.”  A disciple is a committed follower, a willing student, one who has surrendered his or her life fully to Jesus.  Jesus gives us two pieces of the task of the Church.  The first is to proclaim Jesus that others might become disciples. Their commitment is symbolized by their baptism.  The second to teach/learn obedience to Jesus. It is summed up in the motto of our church – “To know Christ and to make Him known.” We do quite a lot of things as a church.  It is good to be reminded of the main thing.

Have you fully committed to follow Jesus?  Are you learning/teaching obedience to Jesus?
