Good morning!
Text: Zephaniah; Isaiah 46
One of the hidden gemstones in the Bible is Zephaniah 3:17. This prophet writes scathing words of judgment upon Judah, Jerusalem and the surrounding nations – all due to their varied sin. But, God is always planning to save a remnant for His own – a people who will ultimately be richly blessed. In 3:17 we see an astonishing view of God’s heart toward those He saves:
The Lord your God is in your midst,a mighty one who will save;he will rejoice over you with gladness;he will quiet you by his love;he will exult over you with loud singing.
What a wonderful thing to consider – the God of the universe singing loudly over us as He exults because of us. I clicked on an online dictionary which says that “exult” means “show or feel elation or jubilation, especially as the result of a success.” God will exult because of you and because of me. Wow. And, God sings. Wow again! I suppose that makes sense insofar as we are created in His image and one of the fruits of creative human hearts is music and song. But this image of God singing over me and over you is just delightful. I wonder what His melody will sound like?
