Good morning!
Text: Jeremiah 13-15; Isaiah 15
Both of these Old Testament prophets are writing into a culture that has, for the most part, forsaken God, embraced sin, and is bound for judgment. That sounds much like our culture. As I read today, the words of Isaiah 13:9 made me pause:
Behold, the day of the Lord comes,
cruel, with wrath and fierce anger,
to make the land a desolation
and to destroy its sinners from it.
Our God is good, He loves us, He provides for us, He is gracious towards us. But the reality of these words is also true. He is a holy, pure, righteous and just God. When the day of the Lord indeed comes, there will be awful, terrible wrath. It is from this wrath those who are in Jesus have been saved. Hallelujah and Amen!
But all around us are people who, on account of their sin, will face the full force of God’s fierce anger. Many of these people are in our everyday lives. Fear for them. Pray for them. And do whatever it takes to proclaim Jesus to them that they, too, might be saved. The day of the Lord may come very soon. Perhaps today…
