Good morning!
Text: Luke 10-12; Ecclesiastes 1
In Luke 11, Jesus instructs regarding prayer. He speaks of a man who goes to his friend’s house in the night to borrow some bread to feed a guest. The friend, already in bed, tells him to go away. Jesus says,
“I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence he will rise and give him whatever he needs.” (Luke 11:8)
The man seeking bread refuses to go away, but keeps asking. Other translations render that word, “impudence” as “persistence.” Why would he keep at it? Because he has no “plan B.” There is no other place to go for bread. This is the way the Lord wants us to see Him and see prayer. When we have a need, the only place to go is to the Lord in prayer. When we pray knowing that we have no alternative – when our trust is on nothing but the Lord – we have stepped into life-defining faith. To have no other way than the Lord – that is faith. And that is what He most wants from us. So, is there some need or trouble in your life that you are trying to meet without prayer?
in Him, Mike
