Good morning!
Text: 2 Kings 15-18; Psalm 89:19-52
The Word of God can speak to us in surprising ways. In the midst of the narrative of the kings of Judah and Israel, one verse got my attention. It is an explanation for God’s rationale for destroying Israel, the ten northern tribes:
“… because they did not obey the voice of the Lord their God but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded. They neither listened nor obeyed.” (2 Kings 18:12)
The interesting bit is the last part, “They neither listened nor obeyed.” Our obedience to God comes in two parts. First we must listen to His voice. And second, we most do as He says. So, do I listen to His voice? When I read the Word, am I actually paying close attention? And – here’s the hard part – do I actually do as the Lord says? He has said commanded some pretty difficult things: “Love your enemies.” “Forgive as God forgave you.” “Take up your cross and follow me.”
Listening? Obeying?
in Him, Mike
