Good morning!
Text: John 19-21; Psalm 142
After Jesus’ resurrection, He appears to his disciples. In John 20:21, He says to them:
“Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
We don’t quote this very often, but it is a powerful statement of the mission of the Church. He calls us to receive peace and to live at peace. We have peace with God – so we can walk with Him. And, we ought to have peace with one another. We are “sent” just as Jesus was sent. The Father sent Jesus to live as God on earth, to walk in righteousness while proclaiming God’s Word, to bring healing to people and glory to God, and to suffer and die that others might be forgiven their sins and live. Jesus came to “seek and save the lost” (Luke 19:10), and “to serve and to give His live as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Jesus “did not come to condemn the world but in order that the world might be saved through Him” (John 3:17).
All these assignments of Jesus apply to you and to me. Next time a Christian asks, “What is God’s will for my life?” these are some pretty straightforward answers. Amen!
in Him, Mike
