Good morning!
Text: 1 Peter 4-5; Isaiah 34
One of the great things about reading through the Scriptures is that it allows us to see many familiar verses in their proper context. Sometimes, when this happens, we get fresh insight and maybe even discover the verse does not mean quite what we had thought. One of those is 1 Peter 5:7; “…casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” These words actually finish a sentence, and the act of “casting” our cares on the Lord follows the action verb. That verb opens verse 6, commanding, “Humble yourselves…” Here is the complete sentence:
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
For me to surrender my problems, anxieties and cares to the Lord requires me to be willing to surrender control. I need to stop thinking I can handle things without Him. I have to come to grips with my inadequacy. Basically, I have to lose my pride, and humble myself. Then, and only then, will I be free from my fears, worries, anxieties and cares.
Something to think about….
in Him, Mike
