Good morning!
Text: Job 22-24; Isaiah 3
In these passages of Job, his friend Eliphaz is working to persuade Job that the explanation for Job’s great misfortune must be some great sin which Job has committed. Job resists, holding in tension his sense that he is not to blame nor is his God. He utters these words of surrender to God’s will:
For he will complete what he appoints for me,
and many such things are in his mind. (Job 23:14)
It is truth and reality for you and for me that God has appointed our future for us. His will is perfect, and cannot be thwarted. He will indeed get His way. This fact can make us very uncomfortable. On the one hand, we want to assert our own will… “What about my ‘free will'”? we may cry out. On the other hand, we may just want to know how it all turns out. To move from despair to peace we have to surrender. That means we must lay our weapons down and stop struggling. When we lay down our need to be in control, our hearts settle. God is in control, He loves us, and He is good… all the time!.
