Today is a reflection day.
A verse that caught my eye on this read-through was Nehemiah 7:2:
“I gave my brother Hanani and Hananiah the governor of the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he was a more faithful and God-fearing man than many.”
What’s attention-getting is the criterion for the appointment. It is not intellect nor political acumen. It is not admiration from the people nor good looks. It is not skill. It is simply the fact that the man was “more faithful and God-fearing.” Oh that we would do our best to select leaders on that basis – leaders in the church and leaders in the community and nation.
