Good morning!
Text: Joshua 22-24; Psalm 59
Joshua 24:15 is an obvious place to take pause and reflect in today’s reading. The words are familiar to many Christians –
“…choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This simple statement speaks volumes. First, we are reminded that whom we serve is a choice we must make. We can serve other gods, to include the god of self. Or, we can serve the one true God. Second, we see Joshua taking responsibility for not only himself, but also his household. Our choice to serve or not serve the Lord will affect others. For husbands and fathers, we are called to lead our homes, and we must be clear about whom we will follow. Our leadership is rooted in our servitude. We must submit to and follow our Lord Jesus.
The reminder of Joshua 24:15 is a good one for today and for everyday. As it says, “choose this day whom you will serve.” Have you made your choice yet for this day?
in Him, Mike
