Good morning!
Text: Acts 22-25; Proverbs 13:1-12
Proverbs is rich with nuggets. Sometimes a single verse is worthy of a day’s contemplation. In today’s readings, Proverbs 13:3 caught my attention:
“Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.”
My first reaction to this was “I talk too much.” I believe that is true of myself – that I would do well to become a better listener. That said, there is more to this verse. It suggests that guarding one’s speech can mean the difference between survival and destruction. It suggests that careless talk can be dangerous, deadly even. This is a topic we ought not take lightly, and if we have bad habits as regards thoughtless words coming out of our mouths, then we need to take seriously the need to straighten up and fly right. So, how is your speech?
