Good morning!

Text:  Amos 7-9; Ecclesiastes 8

Amos follows a pattern common to much of Old Testament prophecy.  After addressing the sins of the nation and painting vivid pictures of God’s judgment to come, there are words of promise. Compare the words of Amos 9:8; “Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the surface of the ground” with 9:13;

“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when the plowman shall overtake the reaper
and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed;
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and all the hills shall flow with it.

It is true that the day of the Lord will come, and there will indeed be wrath poured out on the wicked.  But, for those whom He will save, there will be a beautiful ever-after to come.  These words speak of such abundance that the autumn harvest is still being gathered when it is time to plant in spring and the mountains “drip sweet wine.”  Amos gives us a glimpse of the blessed future, and Jesus makes it happen for us.  Praise the Lord!
