Good morning!
Today is a reflection day.
The first time I read the Song of Songs (or of Solomon), I thought “Wow, this is racy.  Is this supposed to be in the Bible?”  Yet, it is part of Scripture, inspired by the Holy Spirit and the very Word of God.  What this book lets us see is God’s view of human love and physical intimacy.  And the message is clear – it is good – all good – designed by God not just for procreation but also for pleasure.
Many people have been taught or have inferred that God thinks that sex is dirty.  They segregate their sex life away from the spiritual.  They think somehow the Lord is excluded from the bedroom (except for bedtime prayers, of course).  Nothing could be further from the truth.  We are made in the image of God.  In His triune nature he exists as three persons – Father, Son and Spirit – all three persons enjoying perfect unity, harmony, love and intimacy.  In the unique relationship of holy matrimony, we get an earthly foretaste of such relational beauty.  Our physical intimacy is part of that package.  This sacred nature of sex is why it is only approved of by God in the permanent covenant bond between one man and one woman.  In that setting, sex is pure and good, inhabited by God, participated in by His Holy Spirit, and celebrated in His Word.  Wow!
