Good morning!
Text: Luke 10-12; Ecclesiastes 1
There certainly is a lot to ponder in today’s reading. The story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42) speaks volumes to Christians in our culture. It seems we are all so very, very busy. Much of what we do is good – very good even. We engage in activities raising children, caring for older family members, keeping our homes well, serving neighbors and communities, all on top of our time at work. Jesus speaks into our hearts when busy Martha entreats Jesus to tell her sister Mary to stop sitting at Jesus’ feet and help her.
But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”
I am convicted by these words as I think of all the times when I slight my time with the Lord on account of being too busy. Our time with Jesus is “the good portion,” and is the only “one thing” that “is necessary.” May we prioritize our days in light of this truth.
