Good morning!
Text: Luke 1-3; Psalm 92
As John the Baptist preaches a powerful word of to the people to turn from their sins, some wonder whether he might be the expected Messiah. Actually, John’s job is to prepare the way for Jesus.
John answered them all, saying, “I baptize you with water, but he who is mightier than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (Luke 3:16)
John’s water baptism was just a rite, a ceremony, where the people were making a statement about their commitment to lead a fresh life having rejected their sins. But these baptisms of Jesus are works of great power. The Holy Spirit comes into the life of the believer and makes everything different. The Spirit gives new and eternal life, truth, powerful gifts to serve, and changes the inclinations of the heart. “Fire” here points to the judgement to come when Jesus returns where human destinies are sealed. Jesus is the main event – He changes everything. Praise His name today.
in Him, Mike
