Good morning!
Text:  1 Samuel 7-9; Proverbs 25:15-28
After the season of limited national leadership in the Book of Judges, the people of Israel begin to clamor for a king.  The prophet Samuel is in the midst of it, mediating between the Lord and the people.  Samuel is upset by the peoples’ demands for a king, but the Lord tells him that He will give them a king.  Consider these words:
And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them…”  (1 Samuel 8:7)
These words apply to us even today.  This is an election year, and many Christians in our land will get emotionally involved in the process.  As we see the campaigns ebb and flow, our passions may run high.  But, we should be mindful that high emotions about such things may be coming from the idea that what we need is to have the right earthly king.  The fact of the matter is that we already have a perfect king – King Jesus.  It is in Him that we can and must put our trust.  To put much stock in who our president might be is to reject our One and True King.  Who would want to do that?  Think for a minute about how good it is to already have a perfect King, and you will find great peace – no matter the election results.
