Good morning!
Text: Ruth; Proverbs 23:1-18
Ruth is a powerful and sweet story of unconditional love, redemption and also is a key milepost in the lineage of Jesus (check out Ruth 4:16-22). The book also is a bridge between the time of the Judges (when Israel had no king), and the coming of King David.
A key turn in the story comes when Ruth, a Moabite woman and widow of an Israelite, decides to place her future into her husband’s family. She says to her mother-in-law Naomi (also a widow),
“Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.”
As a result of this move, Ruth ends up marrying Naomi’s relative Boaz and bears a child in the lineage of King David and the Lord Jesus.
Every one of us who are Christians have such a moment of adoption. When we receive Jesus, we are welcomed into the household of God, adopted as his children, and forever cleft to God and all His children. Ruth was received into the household through the unconditional love of Boaz, just as the love of Jesus welcomes us. It is amazing how God uses simple stories to teach us His ways and His character!
