Today is a reflection day.
In Joshua 24, the Lord uses Joshua to confront the people with their calling – to reject any lesser gods and to serve the Lord and Him alone. The people accept the challenge:
And the people said to Joshua, “The Lord our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.” (Joshua 24:24)
Our calling is no different. We are saved by faith, but our calling to come to faith is a commandment from God. “Come, follow me”, Jesus commanded. We must choose to obey. In Romans 1:5 our salvation and service of Jesus is described as “the obedience of faith.”
The Israelites standing before Joshua and committing to obey the Lord speak of his voice. “…His voice we will obey.” Here is a challenge: Is it His voice you seek to hear that you might obey? His voice alone?
