Good morning!

Text:  Galatians 4-6; Psalm 39
Galatians 5:16-26 tells us to live by God’s Spirit and not by our own flesh.  Included is the familiar listing of the fruit of the Spirit.  Once at a conference I heard a speaker point out a word in this passage that is the key to putting this idea to work in our lives.  That word is “desires”.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. (Galatians 5:16-17)

The fruit of the Spirit is good, sweet and beautiful.  To live a fruitful life, we must confront our desires.  If the desires of our flesh reign and rule, we can expect a mess.  So, this day, what do your desire?  Things of the flesh or of God’s Holy Spirit?  Your answer will tell you whether the fruit of your life will be sweet or foul.
in Him, Mike
