Good morning!
Text: Leviticus 9-11; Proverbs 15:1-17
Leviticus can seem like tedious reading as we wade through details of instructions for sacrifices and lists of “clean” and “unclean” animals for food. But there are serious points being made. First, even “minor” sin is serious business – so serious that it involves death. Second, God’s standards for our worship are very high. He expects devotion and reverence to accompany our celebration of Him. And third, He wants His people to stand out. He wants them to be special, set apart just for Him. That’s why He says this:
For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. (Leviticus 11:44).
To consecrate means to commit and assign. We commit to be His, and assign ourselves to serve Him. To be holy is to be set apart for God’s purposes, and to be set apart from sin. This commandment is for us, today. How do I know that? Because it is found in the New Testament (1 Peter 1:15-16), repeated as a command for our lives as followers of Jesus.
So, have you ever made it clear in your own heart and mind that you are consecrated to the Lord? And, this day, are you living like one set apart for Him and from sin?
in Him, Mike
