Good morning!
Text: Ezekiel 46-48; Psalm 135.
As Ezekiel comes to a close we see imagery not unlike the descriptions of the new heaven and the new earth in the closing chapters of Revelation. He sees a vision of a river that begins flowing from the temple, swelling in depth and flow as it moves out to water the land. There are trees bearing fruit and abundant fish for food.
Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. (Ezekiel 47:5)
The temple is the seat of worship, the place where God touches down on earth. Here it is also portrayed as the source of a fountain of blessing.
This picture applies to our lives. The believer who lives a life of worship is also a place where God touches down on earth and also to be a fountain of blessing to others. When we are all plugged in to the Lord in heart, mind and soul, we bless others with generosity, love and compassion. Like the waters of Ezekiel’s vision, we bring life. We are to be that conduit through which God’s grace flows to others. Sometimes I can be more like that Dead Sea – the basin at the bottom of the Jordan River Valley where the water flows in but has no outlet. Instead, I ought to be that temple – the place where God touches down on earth and thence the source of outpouring of His goodness and love. I pray that I will live in the truth of this passage and open up the spillway so the Lord’s grace and life flows out of me just as it flows in.
in Him, Mike
