Good morning!
Text: Micah 6-7; Isaiah 41
Micah concludes his prophecy with words of promise and restoration – after having brought God’s people under serious indictments. Our sin is very, very serious. Even our smallest sleight of God is grievous. Many of us have sinned well beyond minor things. But the great news from our God is His mercy. Micah 7:18 says these words:
“You will cast all our sins
into the depths of the sea.”
For ancient, middle-eastern desert people, to cast a thing into the depths of the sea is to make it go away. Completely. It is a picture of utter and absolute removal. That is what has happened to your sin and mine if we have come to Jesus. It is gone – completely. There is neither guilt nor shame nor condemnation. All gone. That is wonderful, freeing news – news that is all true, all of the time.
Now, maybe you just read these words and are asking, “So why do I still feel guilt, shame and condemnation for my prior sins?” Such feelings come only because the enemy wants you to remain a captive, even though Jesus has set you free. And you are free indeed. Ask Jesus to help you to feel as free as you are. And, praise God for His mercies that never fail. Praise Jesus for making it possible for us to be forgiven and set free!
in Him, Mike
