Good morning!
Text: John 7-9; Psalm 138
In the midst of a confrontation with religious leaders, many of those hearing Jesus’ words believed in Him. In John 8:31 we read:
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
They responded that they have never been enslaved to anyone, so how can Jesus say “you will become free?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”
The simple truth is that what sets us free from sin is the truth. Whenever and wherever we find sin, know that sin enslaves. It is the truth that will break the chains. Jesus said of Himself, “I am the way, the truth and the life…” (John 14:6) Jesus also said to the Father, “Your Word is truth…” (John 17:17). Sin? Bring it to Jesus. Confront it with the Word of God. And the captives will go free.
