Good morning!

Today is a reflection day.
There is great anxiety in our midst about next month’s presidential election.  I struggle with how to vote, if at all, as both candidates appear to me as unfit for the office.  Their respective character flaws reflect the moral decay of our culture.  Whoever wins, there are serious questions about the future.  Meanwhile, international tensions are flaring.
These are times when the voice of the prophet Jeremiah rings so very true.  He weeps over his people and their sin as he clearly proclaims both God’s judgment and His mercy. I find encouragement in words like those proclaimed to Ebed-melech, the court servant who rescues Jeremiah from the cistern.  In the midst of the evil, he does the right thing. The Lord says to him:

“For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but you shall have your life as a prize of war, because you have put your trust in me, declares the Lord.” (Jeremiah 39:18)

These few words remind us that we must trust the Lord in these times.  He will take care of us.  Always.
in Him, Mike
