From the Missions Committee (March 4, 2026)
The Community Suppers program was established in 2003 at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Willimantic, as part of that church’s mission to reach into the local community with “kindness and compassion by the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.” Community Suppers is committed to providing fellowship and a hot meal on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and a bagged supper on Thursdays. Meals are served free of charge to the homeless and marginalized from the streets of Willimantic. The effort of providing these meals has been shared by 11 churches, including CCE.
Over the past 20+ years CCE’s Willimantic Meal Ministry Team, led by Guy and Janie Grube, served meals on the 1st Sunday and 3rd Wednesday each month. In February 2026, the CCE team stepped back and the decision was made to take a break from the Willimantic Meal Ministry for a while. We thank all those who participated in this ministry for their heart for “the least of us” and for all the years they have served.
