Text: Numbers 28-30; Psalm 36
Our great God is a God who makes and keeps promises. When he speaks, He means it. And He values faithfulness – the keeping of promises – very highly. Consider these words:
If a man vows a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break his word. He shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. (Numbers 30:2)
This concept is simple to understand, but not always easy in practice. Have you ever broken a promise? I have. I see two lessons for myself. First, speak less and always be careful when making a promise. Second, always seek the Lord’s help in having the integrity, courage and moral strength to do what I say I am going to do.
