Today is a reflection day.
After Job loses his possessions and his children, he chooses to worship God:
Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:20-21)
What a remarkable thing. In our flesh, it would seem more reasonable to blame or to question the Lord. “How could you do this to me?” or “Where were you, Lord?” seem more likely responses. When bad things happen many question God’s character or doubt His power. But Job simply acknowledges that the Lord is in charge and that the Lord’s name is worthy to be blessed (praised). That can only come from a heart that has already spent a lot of time acknowledging that God is sovereign and that God is good. May we make that the pattern of our worship.
