Text: Jeremiah 31-33; Isaiah 21
Today’s Jeremiah text is rich in Messianic content – the principal Old Testament passage about the new covenant is in 31:31-34, and a 33:15-26 reaffirm that Messiah will come from the line of David. Cool!
Today’s text also includes a verse that is familiar to me from my early days as a Christian; Jeremiah 33:3. I recall being told it was God’s phone number. It says:
Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
These words take me back to the simple discovery that the Lord is always, always available for us. He is there for our prayers every minute of every day. When we pray and align our heart with His, He reveals Himself that we might see “great and hidden things.”
These words remind me that God belongs on “speed dial” in my heart. Oh how I go through periods of prayerlessness, struggling and fretting about this or that. My worry and rumination about things are always vain wastes of time. I needed to be reminded of God’s phone number. “Call to me and I will answer you.” What a promise!
in Him, Mike
