day of the Lord

Good morning!

Text:  Micah 1-3; Psalm 150
The prophet Micah brings voice to God’s warnings to His chosen people.  The words are harsh, the tone stern, but the motive is love – like when a parent barks at a child who is wandering toward a hot stove or out into traffic.  Because people with hearts hardened by sin don’t often care to listen, the prophet often speaks loudly, often in powerful images.  Consider these words:

For behold, the Lord is coming out of his place,
and will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.

Imagine that.  We get up each day and think it will be pretty much like yesterday.  We start our daily routine.  Suddenly, the great God of heaven, the Lord Most High, leaves heaven and shows up on earth.  Uh oh.  That would make the day pretty unusual.  And for those who do not know Him, have refused His love and mercy, it will be the most dreadful day.
Micah’s words are, in fact, true.  The Lord will descend one day.  And then wonderful and awful events will bring about a glorious new heaven and new earth.  Perhaps today…
in Him, Mike
