Good morning!
Text: Joel; Psalm 149.
Joel is a potent book of prophecy, rich in images and bearing a strong message that the crises of life are merciful warnings to get right with God.  The book also has vivid pictures of the end of the age, as God’s judgment is meted out followed by His blessing upon the faithful remnant.  A verse that spoke to me this morning is Joel 3:13:

Put in the sickle,
for the harvest is ripe.
Go in, tread,
for the winepress is full.
The vats overflow,
for their evil is great.

The world around us is a mess.  Terrorism, warfare, urban and campus unrest, gross immorality, hatred, pain and suffering are everywhere it seems.  The end of the world certainly appears to be getting close.  These words of Joel remind us that there will be great and terrible judgment brought upon all the evil of the world.
We give God praise and thanks that we are redeemed and so we will be spared. Also we ought to deepen our burden for the evil-doers.  But for His glorious grace, you and I would be yet counted among them.  May we have hearts of love for the lost, urgency for their plight, and take real action on their behalf.  May we pray with fervor and proclaim Jesus with bold clarity.  The end is near, I believe.
in Him, Mike
