Ark-Covenant
Good morning!
Text: 2 Samuel 4-7; Proverbs 31
Several verses that caught my eye today in 2 Samuel relate to the terrible incident where Uzzah touches the ark of the covenant and God strikes him down.  The ark is where God has chosen to be present for the Israelites.  David is having the ark brought up from the house of Abinidab, making merry, singing songs and such, when poor Uzzah reaches out his hand to steady the ark.  He is struck dead.  We find two powerful truths about God and His presence – He is dangerous in His holiness while also being good.  Consider 2 Samuel 6:9-11
And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.
Fear at God’s presence is appropriate.  Yet, when he is near, we experience His blessings.  This is a great tension in the life of the Christian.  We are safe when we are near God because of Jesus’ blood covering our sin.  At the same time, He is to be feared, but never to the point of avoiding Him.  Praise the Lord for His holiness, and also for His merciful kindness.  Amen!
in Him,  Mike
