Text: Romans 14-16; Proverbs 22:17-29.
Just yesterday I saw a couple of messages on the Internet from prominent Christian leaders that made prophetic predictions that our nation will soon experience the judgment of God, The imagery and language of such a thing in the Old Testament is frightening indeed. When we look around, it seems that Satan and his forces are gaining ground in most every aspect of our national life. We just prayed about this at our National Day of Prayer gathering. It is reasonable to expect it is about to get “ugly.” Then, we come to Romans 16:20 in today’s reading:
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
In the midst of our turbulent times, in the swirl of the news of Christians under attack, in the midst of a sense that God’s Church in America is getting marginalized and diminished, there is this truth: Jesus wins! And as His subjects and followers, His brothers, sisters and friends, we share in that victory. Satan will soon be crushed under our feet. Ha!
No matter the grim news of the day, we can take heart. No matter the defeat of the moment, we can stand tall and smile with hope. Victory is at hand, and that victory is ours in and through our Lord Jesus! While we await that Day, we have His grace – sufficient and full – each and every day. Amen and amen.
in Him, Mike
