Text: Deuteronomy 5-7; Psalm 41
The love of the Lord is amazing. Deuteronomy is a name that means “second law” – and it is a repeat of the Law as given earlier in these first five books of the Bible. The very special relationship God has with Israel is affirmed and established.
7 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery… (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)
The Lord’s character and His ways are never changing – so what He says here to ancient Israel is just as true today for you and me. His Word affirms us as a chosen people, too (1 Peter 2:9). The Lord’s choosing of us for salvation is not because we are especially wonderful, smart or good looking, but because He loves us. He did not save us because we are special, we are special because He saved us. And all because of His love. Amen!
in Him, Mike
