Text: Hebrews 1-3; Psalm 24
Hebrew opens with statements of great high Christology – powerful words about who Jesus is and of His great superiority. Two verses that caught my eye this morning is 2:14-15:
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
Jesus became human like you and me so that, by His death on the cross, He might destroy Satan and his despicable work. In doing so, He has set us free from slavery.
I know a number of Christians who fret quite a lot about the “attacks” of the enemy. Now Satan’s wiles and ways do indeed swirl around us, and we do in fact get buffeted by his foul winds. But he cannot have us. Jesus made sure of that. Satan is doomed, and his nasty grip has been broken. We must never fall for the deceit that the devil continues to have any power over us. He does not. we belong to Jesus… and Jesus won.
