Today is a reflection day.
In Luke 7:1-10 we find the story of a Roman centurion asking Jesus’ help to cure one of his servants. He sends a message to Jesus:
7 Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. 8 For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
Jesus commends his faith and heals the servant. This centurion has a clear view of the fact that Jesus has command authority. He is ruler, master, and King. What Jesus says, happens. In the centurion’s military world, authority and obedience are clear and of great consequence. It is the same in Jesus’ realm. His authority is unquestionable. And our obedience matters.
